India: 500 Rupee banknote with Rupee symbol



The Reserve Bank of India will shortly issue 500 Rupees banknotes with the new Rupee symbol. These banknotes will be very similar to the existing Mahatma Gandhi Series and will carry the signature of Dr. D. Subbarao as Governor RBI, will be without any inset letter and have year 2011 on reverse.

Malaysia: New 4th series banknotes 2012



The Central Bank of Malaysia (Bank Negara Malaysia) has announced a new series of banknotes themed “Distinctively Malaysia". This 4th series banknotes will be issued sometime in 2012 and will have denominations of RM1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100. The RM1 and RM5 will continue to be polymer.

The Bank Of the Lao PDR (BOL) issued a new 2000 Kip banknote on 1st December 2011 a day before the 36th national day of the Lao Peoples Democratic Republic. Director General of the Currency Issuing Department of the BOL, Souphat Khotnhotha told a press conference recently that this small denomination banknote, printed in Laos, is made from better quality material and brighter than the 2000 Kip notes issued in 2003.

Thailand: King's 7th cycle birthday commemorative banknote




King Bhumibol Adulyadej Thailand 84 birthday banknote

His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand will turn 84 (7th cycle) on 5th December 2011. To celebrate this auspicious occasion, Bank of Thailand (BOT) has announced a commemorative 100 Baht banknote.

HM King is also referred to as King Rama 9 as he is the 9th King of the Chakri dynasty. A total of 9,999,999 notes will be available on 2nd December and will be sold at 200 Baht each.

The size of the banknote will be 162 x 84mm to reflect 1+6+2="9" and "84" years.

The serial number will begin with 9 K / 9 ธ ("K" and "ธ" stands for "King/พระมหากษัตริย์")

The Reserve Bank of India will shortly issue more banknotes with the Rupee symbol. These banknotes will be very similar to the existing Mahatma Gandhi Series and will carry the signature of Dr. D. Subbarao as Governor RBI.

India: RBI to issue 10 Rupees banknote with the Rupee symbol



The Reserve Bank of India will shortly issue 10 Rupees denomination banknotes with the Rupee symbol. These banknotes will be very similar to the existing Mahatma Gandhi Series and will carry the signature of Dr. D. Subbarao as Governor RBI, will be without inset letter and will have the year 2011 printed on the reverse.

This banknote follows the issuance of coins with the Rupee symbol recently.

The new series of coins bearing the rupee symbol has been issued recently but only 1, 2 and 5 Rupee coins seem to be circulating. The bimetallic 10 Rupees coin is very rarely found. Thailand: 500Baht with sig 82



All denominations, except 50Baht, of Series 15 banknotes now carry signatures (sig 82) of - Korn Chatikavanij (ex-Finance Minister) and Dr. Prasarn Trairatvorakul as Governor BOT.

It is also reported that the first denomination for Series 16 banknotes will be 50Baht with sig 83 - newly appointed Finance Minister, Mr. Thirachai Phuvanatnaranubala and Dr. Prasarn Trairatvorakul (Governor BOT). This needs to be seen as it has always been the most widely used 20Baht and 100baht notes which are issued first.

Singapore: New banknote varieties




Over the last 6 months several new varieties of 2 and 10 SGD banknotes have been issued.

2 Dollars - 1 and 2 triangles below EDUCATION on reverse. However, the 2 triangles variety is now available only in an uncut set being auctioned by MAS.

10 Dollars - 2 triangles below SPORTS on reverse.

Thailand: King Bhumibol's 7th Cycle birthday coins



Thailand King Bhumibol 7th Cycle 84 years birthday coins

His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand will turn 84 on 5th December 2011. To celebrate this auspicious occasion, the Thai Treasury will issue a set of commemorative coins in the denominations of 50 Baht, 800 Baht and 16,000 Baht. This coins can now be booked at the Treasury and will be available later during the year.

Expect a commemorative banknote as well. Whether this will coincide with the issuing of the new 16th series banknotes or not is still not clear.

Malaysia: Upcoming New Coin Series



New Malaysian coin series
Bank Negara Malaysia is issuing commemorative coins to mark the new Third Series of the Malaysian coins which will be available for circulation early next year. Launched on 25th July 2011 by the Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia, the commemorative coins issued are in the denominations of 5 sen, 10 sen, 20 sen and 50 sen.

India: New Coin Series with Rupee symbol



New Indian Rupee Symbol

The new Indian Rupee symbol was announced about an year ago. Last week the Finance ministry announced a new series of coins bearing this rupee symbol. The new series will consist if 50 paise, 1, 2, 5 and 10 Rupees. Note that the 25 paise coin has been discontinued since 2010. Material specifications are still not very clear apart from the fact that the 10 Rupees coin will still be a bi-metallic.

Thailand: Banknotes with new signature variety



In October 2010, Dr. Prasarn Trairatvorakul took over the post of Governor of Bank of Thailand from Ms. Tarisa Watanagase. Banknotes with denominations 20Baht and 100Baht were issued end of January this year with new signature variety sig 82 - Korn Chatikavanij as Finance Minister and Dr. Prasarn Trairatvorakul as Governor BOT. 1000Baht banknotes with this new signature variety is now issued.

With the new elections approaching there is always of a chance of getting a new Finance Minister. This would mean another new signature variety.

Series 16 banknotes are not expected within this year.

Thailand: New Bimetallic commemorative coin issued



The Treasury department of Thailand have issued a bimetallic 10 Baht coin to commemorate 60 years of "Office of the National Economic and Social Development Board" or NESDB. Established in 1950, NESDB is a key agency on planning and formulation of development strategies here in Thailand.
